Hello World!

So, this is my third attempt at starting a blog. The first was a complete shambles and ended up as more of an exercise in seeing the difference between different blogging software. The second was a blog for Kites, but didn't really have much focus (I didn't know whether to write about the company, the tech, or the product), and I ended up writing nothing at all!

This time I'm gonna do it 'right'. I'm only going to write about stuff I care about. As everyone says, I'm not really expecting anyone to read this. One of the biggest reasons I'm doing this is to have a place to keep track of what I do. I've done so many experiments with different technologies and projects, and I've forgotten about most of them at this stage. This way I can keep track of what I do and share it with the world; whether anyone actually wants to hear any of it, we'll see.

So, here goes. I like writing about technical stuff and that's what I'm gonna do. This blog is written using the Pelican blogging engine. It's a static blogging engine written in python, and it's awesome! I kind of learnt about static blogging a while ago, but I really didn't see how awesome it was. It's great to not have any database to set up and run. I'm using App Engine to host the blog, because it too is fucking awesome! I'm planning on writing a whole post about why I love App Engine so much soon, so stay tuned for that. But one of the huge annoyances with App Engine was trying to run stuff locally; running their sql server locally wasn't even possible (as far as I know). Also, their sql instances weren't covered under the free tier, so there's that. Static blogging is awesome since I don't have any of these problems with it. And apparently it's awesome for scaling, although I don't have to worry about that just yet.

So with that done, I better find some interesting stuff to write about and get to it...

Better get to work
